Dave is in support of traumatized Troops

Dave Matthews: "It just struck me as a profound injustice that someone who had given so much of themselves and clearly showed such a quality of personality … that the gratitude that was shown them was basically a dishonorable discharge.

It made me think, "What can I do? What can we do?" So we wrote a letter requesting an investigation in Congress, and now we have 23,000 signatures.

It's not partisan. It's not about whether it's a Republican or a Democratic administration. It's only about how we treat people who have given, essentially, their lives, put their lives in the hands of our country."

Proudest Monkey Lyrics

Swing in this tree
Oh I am bounce around so well
Branch to branch,
limb to limb you see
All in a day's dream
I'm stuck
Like the other monkeys here
I am a humble monkey
Sitting up in here again
But then came the day
I climbed out of these safe limbs
Ventured away
Walking tall, head high up and singing
I went to the city
Car horns, corners and the gritty
Now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do

Then comes the day
Staring at myself I turn to question me
I wonder do I want the simple, simple life that I once lived in well
Oh things were quiet then
In a way they were the better days
But now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey see, monkey do

Dave Matthews talks diapers for Environment

Published July 10, 2007

Almost three years after the Dave Matthews Band tour bus dumped liquid waste onto a boat on the Chicago River (they said they were sorry!), the front man is talking about poop again. This time it has to do with his infant son, August, who Matthews says is being raised green: He wears reusable cloth diapers.

"We use cloth diapers for our new baby because I think diapers might be the No. 3 piece of garbage [in terms of environmental damage]," Matthews said at a Live Earth news conference after the band's performance Saturday in New Jersey, People.com reports.

August Oliver is the third child for Matthews and his wife, Ashley Harper. He was born at the family's home in Seattle on June 19. August has twin sisters Stella Busina and Grace Anne, 5.

Has Matthews arranged a play date with close friend Julia Roberts, who recently had her third baby, Henry? "We've got outfits that we've exchanged," he says. Maybe he sent her some cloth diapers too.

More Random DMB Notes

by Jake Vigliotti 7/7/07 10:30 pm

Dave Matthews Band performed to a nice sized crowd at Giants Stadium as part of the world wide Live Earth concert. DMB played a short set, as expected, and played songs dealing with... that's right, the outdoors! Obviously cuss words are bad for the environment, as the tape-delayed version of Too Much wasn't littered with F-bombs. On the NBC telecast, Skeletor (or Carson Daly... hard to tell which) interviewed 3 members of DMB briefly (really, just asked Dave a question) and Dave explained how their buses are using bio-fuels.

Also,Dave has penned a new song for movie produced by the film arm of ATO. According to a few different write-ups, including The Chicago Sun-Times, the film Joshua will feature a Dave-written tune for the climax of the film. The song is said to be 'spooky', as is the film. The film opens in limited release the week of July 9.

More than a few people have emailed with more info concerning the Documentary that will accompany the Radio City Music Hall release. Fans were interviewed backstage at not only the New York show but the Dave and Tim shows leading up to the NYC show. The doc should be a mix of fan reactions to DMB and interviews with both Dave and Tim. Among other things...

And in case you missed it, Dave and his wife Ashley have another tax-write off. August Oliver Matthews entered the world June 19. Congrads to Dave and family!

Live concerts rally round Earth

Dave to play in a band to save the earth.

Al Gore realized that music could influence public opinion long before he was in a position to run for national office.

"I remember when I was quite young, and the civil rights movement was beginning, listening to Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind," says the former vice president. "It was unbelievable in its impact. And a lot of the music being written and performed for Live Earth is hopefully going to have the same kind of impact."

Lest you've been in a news-free zone for the past six months, Live Earth is the globe-spanning, star-studded, multimedia event that unfolds on seven continents Saturday. Over 24 hours, eight centerpiece shows will aim to bring further attention to an issue that Gore has made a focal point: the climate crisis, and the need to confront it through political and personal action.

Conceived by producer and entrepreneur Kevin Wall, who was inspired by Gore's Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, the environmental extravaganza will kick off in Sydney at about 10 p.m. ET Friday. Concerts are set to follow in Tokyo (midnight), Shanghai (7:30 a.m. Saturday), Hamburg (8 a.m.), London (9:30 a.m.), Johannesburg (1 p.m.), New Jersey (1 p.m.) and Rio de Janeiro (4 p.m.), with artists donating their performing time and all proceeds going to Gore's non-profit Alliance for Climate Protection.

New Jersey's Giants Stadium lineup boasts The Police, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Roger Waters, Melissa Etheridge and Bon Jovi, while Madonna, Genesis, John Legend, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Eyed Peas and a reunited Spinal Tap are on the bill at London's Wembley Stadium.

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds' Concert on CD and DVD

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds' April 22 concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall will be released on CD and DVD just in time for the end of the summer. The aptly named "Live at Radio City" is due Aug. 14 as a two-CD or two-DVD set via RCA, while a Blu-Ray edition will arrive two weeks later.

Among the bonus features on the DVD are a 46-minute behind-the-scenes documentary, a 5.1 audio mix and a photo gallery. Matthews and Reynolds' lone prior live collection, "Live at Luther College," appeared in 1999.

Dave Matthews Band will return to the road Sunday (July 8) in Bridgeview, Ill. The group's next RCA studio album is due in 2008.

Dave Plays Crucial Role in Movie "Joshua"

Dave Matthews Pens Song for 'Joshua'

By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY
The Associated Press

Although Dave Matthews' face is never seen in the new movie "Joshua," he plays a crucial role in the spooky film, writing the song the demented child character croons as the film draws to a close.

"I wanted it to be delivered in a sweet way by the boy, but I also wanted it to be really horrifying," the singer told The Associated Press.

"Joshua," which opens in limited release Friday and expands to wider release later this month, is about a musical child whose family life dramatically alters once his baby sister is born. Quickly, the family starts to fall apart, and Joshua seems to be at the center of its downfall.

The leader of the Dave Matthews Band is part of the company, ATO Pictures, that produced "Joshua," starring Sam Rockwell. Matthews says he was involved in finding the film project, but was not very involved in the production (one exception _ urging that Rockwell be one of the actors).

However, he always knew he wanted to try to write the song planned for the crucial final scene.
